Jesse Potter (2) Eddy, son of Jesse Potter (1) Eddy, was born in Providence, RI, July 12, 1873. He attended the public schools and the Mowry & Goff School, Providence. In 1888 he was a page in the house of representatives, appointed by the late O. J. Miller, speaker, at the time Mr. F. W. Tillinghast was a member of the house of Representatives from Johnston. Mr. Eddy later, on graduating from the Providence high school in 1891, went to work for him in his mill at Thornton--the Pocasset Manufacturing Company, and in the fall of the same year was transferred to Providence as bookkeeper for Tillinghast Stiles & Company, dealers in cotton and worsted yarns. He put his best efforts and energy into the business, mastered the details, and step by step won promotion. He is now treasurer and managing director of the company. In 1901 he was appointed to the staff of Governor Gregory, with the rank of colonel, and in 1903 on the staff of Governor Kimball. In politics he is an active and prominent Republican. He was elected to the state assembly from Providence, and served in the house in 1905-06, holding important committee places. He is a member and past worshipful master of St. John Lodge, No. 1, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; member of Providence Chapter, No. 1, Royal Arch Masons; Providence Council, Royal and Select Masters; St. John Commandery, No. 1, of Providence; has attained to the thirty-second degree, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and is a noble of Palestine Temple, Mystic Shrine. He is a member of the Turk's Head, Commercial, and Southern New England Textile clubs: and of the American and National Cotton Manufacturers' Associations.

Mr. Eddy married, June 21, 1905, Phoebe A. Fraser, born in Nova Scotia. Children: Jesse Potter (3d), born January 12, 1907; Robert Fraser, February 2, 1910.

Obituary
Jesse P. Eddy III '28, Providence; Jan. 20. A surgeon for more than fifty years, he founded RI's first blood bank in 1951. He was an associate member of the John Carter Brown Library, and established the Jesse P. Eddy Pooled Income Trust to support medical education at Brown. He founded the Providence Surgical Society and was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of Colonial Wars, the National Society of Founders and Patriots of America, and was a 32nd-degree Mason. He is survived by his wife, Constance Louise Eddy, 220 Laurel Ave., Providence 02906; and three daughters.

Robert F. Eddy Jr., 63, of Riverside, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at home. He was the husband of Barbara J. (McCann) Eddy.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Robert F. Sr. and Deborah (Powers) Eddy, he had lived in Riverside for 30 years, previously living in Barrington for 30 years.

A tugboat captain, he worked for the Providence Steamboat Co. for 31 years until retiring in 2000. Captain Eddy was a member of the East Providence Harbor Management Commission.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Eddy Family Association. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the wilderness.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Wayne A. Eddy of Cheshire, Conn. and tugboat captain D. Scott Eddy of Warwick; two daughters, Joyce Eddy Reid of Barrington and Sarah F. Eddy of Warwick; a brother, Stuart W. Eddy of Riverside; two sisters, Pheobe E. Horne of Windham, Maine and Deborah Plummer of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and nine grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Jesse P. Eddy IV.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 in the Barrington Congregational Church, County Road. Burial will be private.
