Died. At the residence of his son-in-law, in Ontario, Wayne Co., N.Y., of consumption, Aug 4th, Deacon Russell Johnson, aged 74 years. Also, from the same page (19) of the scrapbook: Johnson. At the residences of his son, in Ontario, Wayne County, N.Y., Aug 5th, 1876, of Consumption, Deacon Russell Johnson, aged seventy-four years. The subject of the above notice was born in Coleraine, Mass., and was the youngest son of Lieut. Isaac Johnson. At the age of twenty he professed religion, and united with the Baptist church in Coleraine. (illegible) he was married to Miss Phebe Eddy, and (illegible) removed to Richville, where he spent the later part of his life. He was one of the first members of the Baptist church in Richville, which was organized in June 1834, and was there ordained Deacon in 1837. In this place he buried his wife, and was again married to Miss Abigail Van Duzee of Gouverneur. For a few years past he resided with his son in Ontario, N.Y. His sickness was protracted and his sufferings though severe were borne with resignation. He frequently expressed a desire to go home. Three of his children have gone before, five yet survive to mourn his loss. Two years since he followed his companion to the grave. One brother and sister remain of a family of eight. He was an esteemed citizen, warm friend, beloved brother, and a faithful laborer in the vineyard of the Lord. We mourn his loss, yet not as those without hope.
