Noah Rude was only age 6 months when his father, John Rude, Sr. Died on April 14, 1705. Noah was baptized on March 18th, 1705 at the First Congregational Church in Preston, CT. Noah elects his oldest brother John Rude Jr. as his guardian on May 11th, 1714 at age 10 ( John was then age 25), and from this we conclude that Hoah's mother Mary had died in late 1713 or early 1714. In 1726 upon attaining age 21, Noah received his share of his father's inheritance bequeathed to him in 1705. Records show that on June 6, 1726 and recorded November 29th, 1726 Noah was living in Norwich and deeds to his brother John and ex-guardian his inherited interest in his father's property. Although Noah states his residence as Norwich, John states that he was a resident of Preston. It is not known when Noah moved from Preston to Norwich or how long he stayed there. Noah sold his inheritance to his brother John for the then princely sum of 30 pounds. He then went to Morris Co, NJ sometime between 1727-1742 although the exact date is not known. Noah may have lived for a short time in Stonington, CT before moving to New Jersey. We do know that by 1742 he was living in Mendham Township which is located just outside of and southwest of Morristown because he is named in court records which is the first mention of him in New Jersey and also the first mention of Noah in any record since 1726. Noah is mentioned again in Morris City court records the following year and then four years later in 1747, when the township of Mendham was created, Noah's name is mentioned in the records describing the boundaries of the township (The History of Morris Co, NJ, 1882, pg. 22) His name is mentioned again in Somerset Co., NJ records as living near the township of Bedminster between 1755-1760. Another report from Somerset Co. (Somerset Co. Historical Quarterly Vol. III pg. 26, May 1754) states that "James Dunn; he sold to one Dykins; he sold to Noah Rude, and Rude sold to James King, now on the land." This would indicate that by May 1754 Noah was no longer on his Mendham farm having sold it to James. King. Sinch Noah's children were all born between 1730-1752 and because he was in NJ from at least 1742-1756, this proves that most if not all of his children were born on Noah's farm in Mendham Township in Morris Co. We can also infer that he was also married in this same location. His wife's name is unknown but she was probably born five to eight years after Noah based on the ages of their children. Her name was most likely either Phoebe, Nancy, or Sarah based on given female names to his children's children. Her maiden name, also unknown, could have been WORDEN ( guess), Coates, Brown, Harvey, Martin, or Alvers.
Noah is thought to have left JJ for Pennsylvania between 1765-1768. Because his son Caleb states in his marriage record that he was a resident of Rockaway, NJ in 1758, Noah may have lived for several years in this area before leaving for Pannsylvania (ca. 1754-1767). No record for Noah's marriage or for the births of any of his childrean has yet been found. Church records for births and baptisms were either not kept prior to 1780 or have been lost or destroyed. Noah purchased 387 acres in "old" Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania, which at that time included all or parts of present day Washington Co., Greene Co., Fayette Co., Somerset Co., and Westmoreland
