235-26 HARRIET CATHERINE8 Edson, first child of Charles7 Edson (#235-10) and Susanna Stevens, born June 30, 1824, married, Oct. 14, 1844, Lee Co., Ill., Otis A. Eddy. He died a few years later. They lived in Dixon, Ill., and in Gazelle, Shasta Valley, Calif. She served as a nurse in the Civil War, and was the first Postmistress of Gazelle, Calif., from 1872 or 1873 until her death, Oct. 14, 1904, Montreal, Canada. She was the first white woman to climb Mt. Shasta, doing this in 1857. She and some Stevens relatives operated a hotal and restaurant, a home for gold miners.

Died at Dixon, Ill., March 10th, Otis Alexander Eddy, age 39 years, native of Worchester Co., Mass. In 1835 went to Alton and 1841 to Dixon. 3-14-1848
