No names of parents. Joseph was shipped to Iowa for burial. Joseph's wife was still living in 1909, but a Mrs. W. T. Young was the informant. Does this help any as to who his parents were? Please let me know when the new Eddy book is done as I am interested in a copy. Mean while I check out more in Iowa and if I find something I hope to get it back before the book is printed. Laraine Bloor

We both must have been thinking or had time. I was in Regina yesterday but I hope be going back soon and I'll try to find then. I will need names and dates if you have them. I am using the Family tree program and after much grief I found a setting that allows more generations. Therefor it was me again and not the program. I have been busy tracking down this Fanny James trying to fit her in the famous James boys that the family claimed. I found a Frances James, she was born in Rhode Island, Providence county, that may fit and hoped the Death Certificate would confirm, not yet I'll keep trying if I make that connection. I can take the James family back to South Wales 1630. I'm guessing she was an aunt as she would have been born 1810 -1820. They were born to Robert Sallee and Zerelda Cole, James b.1847, Frank b.1843. Very interesting tree as the James, Cole, Yates and Younger boys rode together for awhile and are all related. The Francis I found was born 1814 -1815 according to 1860 census of Connecticut, Rhode island. Laraine

741 Hello Stephanie

So far, I am not sure of the ancestors of John Eddy married to Elizabeth Edwards. I have his father as Obediah, but I need that verified.

Here is a descendancy of what I have so far from Mary Eddy and Uzal Munson with notes included. I highlighted my father's section and mine in red. There is a bit of data on my father which will give you some explaination of the name change. This is to do with me being a Munson, but have the name Lamont.

From the Munson Record

Uzal enlisted as a private soldier in the Revolutionary Army, and is said to have been promoted to the officer of lieutenant; the First Church Register calls him "Captain". There is no mention of Uzal in the "Official Register," characterizing him as a Private in the Third Regiment of Continental Troops, Jersey Line. "He crossed the Delaware with George Washington in his flight," says David, of Indianapolis, and he adds-"I still hold the old powder horn that he carried through this war." Then this cousin, a boon companion of The Lightening, Orientalizes thus: "When he died, his funeral was near four miles in length, many people coming from a distance of one hundred miles."

D. R. M. writes: "Uzal went through the Revolutionary War, as most of his company was killed, with the officers, he stepped forward, took command of the remnant, and lead them through the Battle of Monmouth. For this great bravery he was promoted to Captain . . . He dropped dead, by apoplexy, on the road home from the Presbyterian church in Morris-town."

Isaac Canfield of Hanover, 2 April 1799, made a $440 sale to Uzal, and 13 March 1800, Uzal and Mary his wife, "of Morris-town," transferred to Abram Burnet 2 acres for $26.

Uzal was an iron-worker, hammering large lumps of iron into merchantable bars.

Uzal Munson was a Captain in the revolutionary war, enlisted Oct. 20, 1775 to Jan. 12, 1776 for Howell Co., New Jersey; He served one year in Jersey Regiment commanded by Lord Stirling; He was in Captain Silas Howell's Co., 1776-77; He lead troops through the battle of Monmouth; He crossed the Delaware with Washington.

Uzal and his father Solomon were both in the Revolutionary War. Both started of as privates in New Jersey and were in Captain Dickerson's company, Third Battalion, Second Establishment; Third Regiment.

Found in the book "Official Register of the Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War". By Will. S. Stryker. Trenton, NJ. 1872. (878p.):255

Uzal died of a stroke and congestive heart failure (palsy, apoplexy) and was well respected in his community as his funeral procession was "four miles long" -- according to the

Munson Record.

Morris County Pension Applications of Revolutionary War Veterans

Uzal MUNSON

Aged 66, resident of Morris Township declares "that he served 1 year in the first Jersey Regiment commanded by Lord STERLING and afterwards by Colonel WINDS in Captain Silas HOWELL's company, afterwards in SPENCER's Regiment and Captain SEELY's Company in 1776 and 1777 that he made his original application for a pension on the sixth day of April 1818 --- That he has received a pension certificate which is numbered 4500...... that I am sixty six years old; that my occupation is that of a bloomer for the making and drawing of bar iron; but am entirely disabled to pursue it as well by failure of sight as by rheumatic afflictions attending old age; my family consists of my wife named Mary in the sixty third year of her age languishing for many years past and still with the consumption and wholly unable to support herself or defray the expenses of her Physician; my daughter Hannah aged 32 years whose labors are charitably devoted to the care of her parents; my son Luther aged 22 years an Idiot weakly in health requiring almost constant care; and a granddaughter named Eliza MUNSON aged about fourteen years not able to earn her own support."

Inventory includes "Ten Acres of Land Improved" --- mentions indebtedness to numerous persons.

Supplemental application dated July 7, 1823, recites his age as 69 years -- also that 'Uzal MUNSON enlisted for one year on or about the 5th November 1775 in the State of New Jersey in the County of Morris in the company commanded by Captain Silas HOWELL in the Regiment commanded first by Lord STIRLING and afterwards by Colonel WINDS in the line of the State of New Jerseyan the Continental establishment that he continued to serve in the said corps until the expiration of his term of enlistment that he was sent by his commanding officer to the hospital where he was confined by sickness for two months and was not with the regiment when discharged, but was discharged by the Surgeon of the hospital who gave him a certificate of his discharge which was burnt in his fathers' house about the year 1798. That afterwards he enlisted for three months in Captain SEELY's company in SPENCER's regiment in 1776 and 1777. That his name has been placed on the pension list and was dropt therefrom on account of his property."

Inventory includes "nine 82/100 acres of land the house and barn are both small and very much out of repair -- the house and barn are both of wood and very old."

"He further states that he is very infirm and very little able to labor. That he is by occupation a bloomer, but is unable to pursue his occupation by reason of his age a defect in his sight, and a paralytic affection -- his wife is in the 67th year of her age and totally unable to labor and she has been confined to her bed most of her time for twenty five years with a consumption and has been a constant bill of expense, instead of a help to him -- That he has one son at home with him who is an idiot and requires constant care and attention, to watch him and keep him from harm -- he is 25 years of age and weakly in his health -- He has a daughter living with him, whose name is Hannah and who devotes the whole of her labor for the benefit of her parents, and occasionally he has with him a granddaughter named Eliza MUNSON about 17 years old, and while with him she assists his family with her services..... that the value of his real estate is much diminished by reason of the fall in the price of land and the decay of his house which is scarcely tenantable and his barn almost useless by reason of decay and want of covering. This declarant further saith that his daughter has now become the main stay and support of his family, that should he be deprived of her services he should become at once an object of public charity, and that he has no control over the services of his daughter, other than the natural affection she has for her parents"

Application dated July 11, 1820

743 Help!! Seek ANY info on Eddy family of one Frank(?)Eddy who married my ancestor, Mary E. SPENCER-who was b. 1833 in Shaftsbury,VT. Mary was daughter of Charles Wright Spencer, junior & wife, Emily Huntington-both of Shaftsbury,
VT.
Found a Mary E.and Frank Eddy in 1880 US census in Bennington County,VT---which is county for Arlington,VT where Mary E. Eddy (according to mention in her father's will) was SUPPOSSED to be living at that time. Also in 1880 Census it shows she has a daughter,as well as a son by Frank Eddy---son being named Charles---which could be, of course, named after Mary's father, Charles Spencer---IF i have the CORRECT household??
Trying to establish IF THIS IS the case? No marriage certificate available to prove Mary E.Spencer married FRANK Eddy---so does anyone out there recognize this as correct?:
Have lots of Spencer info to exchange for Eddy info if we are the same two connected families!! Thanks for the help- sincerely, diane m. spencer (p.s.-PLEASE email me DIRECT at .... dimari_@hotmail.com .... as i don't get back to these boards very often--thanks again!).

May you always be blessed!! Thank u sooooo much Stephanie for the Mary E.(Spencer)EDDY and Frank Eddy info!

I had looked for my great-grandpa's sister, Mary's MARRIED NAME for 10yrs--when JUST stumbled -upon it the other day on an extracted will blurb that was posted on a USgenweb site online--

and then i posted what i knew from that---only Mary E.'s married surname of Eddy--and fact i then happened to find "a" Mary Edddy" married to a "Frank" in 1880 census in Vt---NOT knowing if that was the RIGHT couple,or not.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So i THANK U A ZILLION TIMES for CONFIRMING i was FINALLY on the RIGHT track. Now---to try and trace-down to my living 3rd Cousins today!! That's the really FUN part----not just the "search" which i love---as i adore "detective" work---but also the fact of discovering a living new "cousin- friend"!!( i JUST found 3mos.ago after 30yrs of searching my 3rd SPENCER cuz---the great- grand- daughter of Mary E's brother Dr.Horace Spencer---and wouldn't ya know it--she (Noreen) was living ALL THIS TIME right UNDER my nose---HERE in Los Angeles County!! Life is strange,eh?

If you think you need any of the following...here's some info for you---in order to more fill-out Mary E.'s heritage(if wished for).....Her father and mother---as you say ---were Charles Wright SPENCER,jr.(his dad was C.W.Spencer SENIOR)--and jr's wife was Emily Huntington (daughter of Henry (NOT Henry E. the railroad magnate)Huntington (mary e.(spencer)eddy was 6th cousin to Henry E. Huntington).

Mary E.(SPENCER) Eddy's siblings were two brothers----(my grandpa's dad) Wright C. (known as "Charlie") Spencer b.1842 in Shaftsbury,VT--and their little brother,(Dr.)Horace Spencer b.1846 in Shaftsbury,Vt.

Once Emily Huntington Spencer (their mother) dies c.1855-Shaftsbury,VT----the rest of the family EXCEPT MARY E.---go with their dad C.W.Spencer,jr.and his 2ND WIFE---(cousin)Lucy B. Draper

to Plainfield,IL in 1858. This was a pit-stop between VT and where my great-grandpa Wright ended-up in Lincoln,NE in 1869---that i knew NOTHING about! And why i couldn't find my family for 30yrs!

Well if you need any other info just email me! I canNOT THANK u ENOUGH!! Hope your week is fabulous----thanks again---take care, diane m. spencer

EDDY, Henry Clarence, musician, born in Greenfield, Mass.. 23 June 1851 At the age of seven he began his musical education, and at fourteen filled a place as organist, He has legally dropped his first name. When sixteen he went to Hartford, Connecticut, where he studied with Dudley Buck, and at the age <)f seventeen became organist of Bethany Church, Montpelier, Vermont. Here he remained about two years and a half, teaching and devoting all his leisure time to his studies. In 1871 he went to Berlin, where he studied the piano under Loesehhorn and the organ under Haupt. After making a concert tour through Saxony, Austria, and Switzerland, playing in all the principal Churches, he was invited in Berlin to play before the emperor and many of the nobility. Passing through England on his way home, he stopped in London, playing in the Royal Albert hall and in St. Paul's cathedral. On his return from Europe, Mr. Eddy became organist of the 1st Congregational Church in Chicago.

In 1876 Mr. Eddy became general director of the Hershey school of musical art in Chicago. In the spring of 1877 the music hall connected with the school was finished, capable of seating 1,000 persons, and here, upon a fine three manual concert organ, Mr. Eddy began a series of recitals unique in the history of organ music. They numbered 100 when completed in 1879, and embraced all the greatest works for the organ, of both ancient and modern authors. Mr. Eddy played at the Centennial exposition at Philadelphia, and in different parts of the country, giving concerts and exhibiting many new organs. Among his publications are a prelude and fugue in A minor; collections of organ compositions entitled "The Church and Concert Organist" (2 vols., New York, 1882'5), and "The Organ in Church" (1887)
