Henry Turner Eddy

EDDY, Henry Turner, mathematician, born in Stoughton, MA, 9 June 1844. He was graduated at Yale in 1867, receiving the mathematical medal in his senior year, and then followed the engineering course in Sheffield scientific school, where he held the office of instructor in fieldwork in engineering.

In 1868 he received the appointment of instructor in mathematics and Latin in the University of East Tennessee, at Knoxville, and in 1869 he became assistant professor of mathematics and civil engineering in Cornell, where he received the degrees of C. E. and Ph.D. for advanced studies in pure and applied mathematics. After holding the office of associate professor in mathematics in Princeton for a year, he was called in 1874 to fill a similar chair in the University of Cincinnati, and was appointed dean of the faculty in 1874'7 and 1884'5. The year 1879'80 he spent in study abroad. Dr. Eddy is a member of scientific societies, and was vice president of the American association for the advancement of science, of the section on mathematics and astronomy in 1884. He has contributed numerous papers to scientific and technical journals, and has published "Analytical Geometry" (Philadelphia, 1874); " Researches in Graphic Statics" (New York, 1878); "Thermodynamics" (1879); and " Neue Construetionen aus der graphischen Statik" (Leipsic, 1880).

Sebella (daughter of Taylor, Horace Addison and Coan, Hannah Elizabeth) was born on 13 Oct 1844 in Morgan, Ashtabula, OH; died on 3 Sep 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnisota; was buried in Clarison Township Cemetery. NANCY, wife of Thomas Eddy," to church Oct. 4th, 1818, by letter from the church at Farmington, daughter of Phineas Hamblin, of Farmington, and his wife, Rhoda (Andrus,) born Aug. 3d, 1789, baptized Aug. 16th, 1795, at Farmington, by Rev. Mr. Marsh, of Wethersfield, and to church there, October, 1813. He was son of Charles, senior, and Hannah (Kelsey,) his wife; married Abi Lewis, Nov. 5th, 1802, daughter of No. (88) and No. (111;) she died May 6th, 1814, when he married second, Sept. 18th, 1814, as above; she died Sept., 1852, at Lama, Pennsylvania, and my informant says, with very clear views of her future good estate. He died May 28th, 1830, aged 52
