Came to Sherman, TX from Rockwood, TN in 1882. Later he settled in Spanish Fort, TX (Montague County). He was hired by a rancher and worked as a cow puncher. He moved to Lindsey, Indian Territory, OK, after Robert Sr.'s birth. Still later, he moved to Chelsea, OK, as a farmer. After that, he went to Vinita, OK, where he worked as the manager of a grain elevator. Still later, he became a deputy sheriff of Craig County followed by a period of time as a United States Enforcement Officer. During World War I he was in the Secret Service. Finally, he moved to Okmulgee, OK, where he became a desk sergeant with the Okmulgee Police Department. He was a Methodist and belonged to the First Methodist Church in Okmulgee. He was also a Mason.

John married Hutton, Mary Rebecca. Mary was born in 1863; died in 1896. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

William Benjamin died by eating poisoned cornbread cooked by his wife. The
remainder of the cornbread was given to the cow and the cow also died.
Apparently, after the corn was taken to the mill to be ground,animal poison got
into the meal by mistake. After his death in Tennessee, John Alfonso, Patience,
and their mother Sarah A. moved to Spanish Fort, TX and settled. Patience
married Samuel E. Howard on August 5, 1883. Later Sarah died and still later
John Alfonso moved to Oklahoma Territory.

William Benjamin was an Alderman for the town of Tullahoma, TN, in1858-59 and
also served as Mayor in 1860.
