John C., son of Captain Charles and Deborah (Cadman) Jenckes, was born September 26, 1776, on the Island of RI, and by act of the RI legislature was permitted to adopt a middle name, Charles. His home was in Providence. He married (first) Sarah Snow, and (second) Fanny Smith, daughter of James and Phebe (Wardwell) Smith, of Dighton, MA. By his first marriage there were ten children born, seven of whom died in infancy, the others being: 1. Susan, born March 12, 1803; married Lloyd Shaw, and removed to Illinois. 2. Eliza, born December 12, 1806; married Joseph V. Snow. 3. Amey Ann, born June 25, 1816; married Pardon M. Hale. Of the ten children born to the second marriage, the following three survived childhood: 1. Sarah Snow, born April 18, 1822, died August 14, 1900, unmarried. 2. Charles William, born August 10, 1826, died April 26, 1909; he married Ella Tingley, and they had children: William Cadman, born March 2, 1854, died in infancy; Frederick Tingley, born July 12, 1856, married Emily Houghton; Charles William, Jr., born September 18, 1858, died March 29, 1883; Emma Louise, born October 22, 1864, unmarried; and Ella Maud, born March 18, 1868, unmarried. 3. Captain Charles Jenckes, son of Captain Jeremiah and Ann (Tillinghast) Jenckes, was born in 1754, was a master mariner, and was lost at sea in November, 1782. He married, December 1, 1774, Deborah Cadman, of Newport, who survived him many years, and died September 13, 1835. Captain Jeremiah Jenckes, son of Obadiah and Alice (Eddy) Jenckes, was born about 1720, and died December 25, 1797. He resided in Providence, and was a seafaring man, thus figuring very little in the land records. He married Ann Tillinghast

Obadiah, son of Joseph (3) and Martha (Brown) Jenckes, was born about 1690, and married, May 21, 1713, in Providence, Alice, daughter of Zachariah and Mercy (Baker) Eddy, born January 5, 1694, in Middleboro, MA, descended from William Eddy, A. M., a native of Bristol, England, who was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was vicar at St. Dunstan, in the town of Cranbrook, Kent, from 1589 to his death, November 23, 1616. He married (first) November 20, 1587, Mary, daughter of John Fosten, who died in July, 1611. He married (second) in 1614, Widow Elizabeth Taylor. His third son, Samuel Eddy, born in May, 1608, sailed from London, England, august 10, 1630, in the ship "Handmaid," in company with his brother John, and arrived at Plymouth, MA, October 29, following. He was made a freeman January 1, 1632, and resided at Spring Hill, at the end of Main street, Plymouth; was one of the original purchasers of Middleboro, and owned lands in various sections of the colony. He died in 1685. His wife's name was Elizabeth, and their second son, Zachariah Eddy, born 1639, resided in Rehoboth, Plymouth, Middleboro, and Swansea, dying September 4, 1718. He married, May 7, 1663, Alice Padduck, born March 7, 1640, died September 24, 1692. Their eldest son, Zachariah (2) Eddy, was born May 10, 1664, and settled in 1707, at Providence, RI. He married, February 13, 1683, in Middleboro, Mercy Baker, of Swansea. He had a second wife, Ann Phillis. His daughter Alice, born January 5, 1694, became the wife of Obadiah Jenckes, as above noted.

Obadiah married Eddy, Alice on 21 May 1713 in Providence, RI. Alice (daughter of Eddy, Zachariah and Baker, Mercy) was born on 5 Jan 1693/94 in USA; died before 2 Feb 1736/37 in USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
