Data Introduction

In Edgar's biographical sketch of 1912, it states that his paternal grandfather, Samuel Eddy, was of English and Dutch extraction. Edgar engaged in teaching while living at St. Lawrence County, N.Y. In 1854, he came to Wisconsin and engaged in farming. They had traveled by rail to Chicago and thence by water to Milwaukee. Edgar enlisted in December of 1861 in the Third WI Calvary, Company A in the Civil War, serving under Colonel Barstow. He was wounded in Missouri by a ball in his right shoulder and knocked off his horse. He carried that ball the rest of his life. The pain of this wound never left him and he had difficulty sleeping except on his back. His grandson, Hugh Eddy, remembers him sitting on the porch in his rocking chair as an elderly man. Hugh said he always had wintergreen candy for him. On a day in 1912, Hugh remembers seeing a procession of wagons and horses going past the Eddy Homsestead. He ran to the porch to see his grandpa and he wasn't there. Hugh then realized the meaning of death as the procession was the funeral of his Grandpa Edgar.

Edgar married Tucker, Catherine on 20 Jun 1849 in St. Lawrence County, Wisconsin. Catherine (daughter of Tucker, Joseph and Church, Catherine) was born on 5 Jan 1834 in Massena, St. Lawrence Co., New York; died on 16 Aug 1890 in Sparta, Monroe, WI; was buried on 19 Aug 1890 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta, WI.
